UNDER SIEGE

By Robin Hutton

ree

Under siege from glossy girls

With lips that plump in good time

For others to desire but never attain

And drive the monstrous laboratories

Where rabbits cower in glass corners

Waiting for the needle to sting

And the eyes to swell in the name of profit.

Under siege from global terror

The maiming of the common man

Who cast his vote on lies and spin

Only to crumble at the hands of strangers

Who mingle freely among us all

Sheltered by the very shores

That so offend the ancient and the unconfirmed.

Under siege from history’s sin

All guns and plots to conquer desire

Recorded for posterity and imitation

By the weak minds that trod the same paths

And learn not from a bloody past

But glorify the stinking holes

That house the rotted corpses of yesterday.

Under siege from lost love

From the skull feeding monsters

That shun fellow man and rejoice

In empty triumphs of strength in haste

That poisoned the children

And melted the greatness

Before the world became the inferno.
